Fall and Spring Clean-up

A family moving boxes The Fall and Spring Curbside Clean-Up events offers an opportunity for our customers to clean out their house, garage and yard. The Fall Clean-Up is usually in late October early November and the Spring Clean-Up is usually in March or April. Call us for exact dates.

Guidelines for Participation

Collection begins at 7 a.m., so set materials out the night before.

Sofa All material must be bagged, tied, boxed, or bundled, weigh less than 30 pounds per unit, and placed on the curb or alleyways. Large bulky items accepted with below restrictions.

Computer monitors and televisions must have the owners name and address written on the screen. Refrigerators are accepted but we charge a separate fee.

Branch Tree limbs, prunings, wood, and lumber should be cut into 4 foot maximum lengths.

Cannot Accept

no No hazardous, universal, or toxic material including paint, fluorescent tubes, thermostats, batteries, and refrigerators that contain freon. No dirt, rock, cement, or similar materials, or automobile parts.

Refrigerator We can accept refrigerators that have had the freon and the oil removed. PSSI will remove the freon and oil for a fee. Items containing Cathode Ray Tubes (CRT), including televisions and computer monitors have been deemed hazardous waste by the State of California's Department of Toxic Substance Control because of the 5-7 pounds of lead and other metal contained inside. We will be collecting them for free during the clean up, but only if your name and address are on the item (a requirement by the State).

Here are some ways to get rid of reuseable items:

1) Contact charitable organizations or thrift stores.

2) Use Palo Alto's Recyclopedia to find charitable organizations: http://www.cityofpaloalto.org/depts/pwd/recycle/recyclopedia.asp

3) Call the County Recycling Hotline at 1-800-533-8414 or visit their webpage at http://recyclestuff.org.

4) Find charitable organizations in San Mateo County’s Reuse Center: http://www.recycleworks.org/reuse_center.html.

5) Consider joining a local Freecycle group at http://www.freecycle.org or a local Freesharing group at http://www.freesharing.org
