Household Hazardous Waste

oil can Stanford resident can use Santa Clara County's Household Hazardous Waste Program to properly dispose and recycle hazardous waste. They operate monthly mobile events and a permanent hazardous waste facility in Sunnyvale. Each of the programs operates in a timely and efficient manner. This web page has information on disposal of household sharps and prescriptions, used motor oil and filter recycling, pesticide disposal and recycling, mercury education, and the household hazardous waste reuse program.
As of February 9, 2006, a new law bans batteries, fluorescent lamps and thermometers from the trash! Residents and small businesses will be prohibited from disposing of Universal Waste (ie. batteries, fluorescent lamps and compact bulbs, thermostats, and thermometers) in the trash.
